Custom lash packaging: what to include in an OEM brief

Packaging has to fit the lash product, communicate the right information and survive the route to your customer. Resolve these details before approving artwork or comparing quotations.

Confirm what the box must hold

Start with the product code and the number of pairs or pieces in each retail unit. Confirm the tray dimensions, how the product is secured and whether an adhesive or accessory needs space. A box that looks right in a reference photo may not fit your selected tray. Ask for the proposed dimensions and a sample or agreed proof before final approval.

Share a usable artwork brief

Provide your brand name, logo files, intended colors and the text you want printed. Explain whether you have print-ready artwork or need help developing a layout. Agree the dieline, safe area, bleed, finish and file format with the team producing the packaging. Check spelling, product codes and barcodes on the final proof. Screen colors and a photograph are not a reliable substitute for an approved color reference.

Check information required in your market

Tell the supplier where you plan to sell the product. Ask which product and packaging documents can be supplied, and verify the labeling requirements that apply to your exact range with an appropriate local professional. Do not add certification logos, performance claims or safety claims without evidence and permission. An adhesive or accessory may need information that differs from a lash-only pack.

Separate minimum quantities and costs

Ask for the lash minimum quantity and the custom packaging minimum quantity separately. Printing, finishing or a custom shape can introduce setup costs and different quantity requirements. State how many styles will share a box design and what changes between them. Request a breakdown of product cost, packaging cost, samples and any setup charges that apply. Confirm whether the quotation includes freight and which shipping terms it uses.

Approve a production reference

Keep the final artwork version, box and tray dimensions, product code and sample approval in one place. Confirm how the retail boxes will be packed for transport and ask for carton dimensions and weight when freight is being estimated. Discuss timing for artwork approval, samples and production separately. Send changes in writing before approval so your quotation and production reference remain consistent.
